Felt Edge: Social justice in contemporary art and therapy - Exhibition
This work travels back to the edge of my memory as an emerging artist, exploring dark, uncharted spaces. Awkward, curious, uncertain interiorities captured impulsively, and revisited intentionally. An exploration of identity, seeking out the unknown, and often uncomfortable edges between our previous and new ‘selves’. Dana Raphael who developed the term Matrescence identifies shifts in a person’s physical state, sociocultural position, relationships, and identity. This work explores the liminal quality of matresence, the ‘birth of a mother’, and the delicate, often unspoken interplay of light and dark within that space. The artwork explores a personal shift in identity, while creating space to hold and understand these changes in others.
